From a young age, James was extremely competitive. Starting as young as 5, James’ first endeavour into the sporting field was little athletics. From there, he found a love for Rugby Union, travelling interstate at 16 to compete in a high level and to ultimately work towards his goal of playing for Australia. To assist him with this, James found CrossFit.
Over time, his accessory work in CrossFit took over and he found himself in the gym working new skills and trying to improve his benchmark scores more than he was on the rugby field. In 2012, James tried his luck at the CrossFit Open, placing 47th and earning himself a spot at the Australian CrossFit Regional Competition. Going in with no expectations and coming out with a 9th place, the hunger for CrossFit success began.
In 2013, James set up his affiliate, CrossFit Mode to help support his dreams of making the CrossFit Games. After placing 11th in 2013, 4th in 2014, 13th in 2015 – James finally made the CrossFit Games placing 2nd at regionals in 2016. in 2017, 2018 and 2019 he has placed 1st at the Regional/Sanctional events, earning him 4 consecutive years at the CrossFit Games. He has placed 26th, 27th and 17th respectively, and this season took out his best placing yet of 5th at the World CrossFit Games, earning himself the title of the 5th Fittest Man on Earth.
Jenna Louise “The Jennarator” Douros has been an athlete since childhood; from BMX racing, trick blading and athletics, to competitive gymnastics. She’s always had the competitive edge wired deep within and molded herself to be someone who valued success, discipline and determination. She’s fuelled with drive, hunger and will; and she thrives on thoroughly educating herself in everything that interests her. She doesn’t allow herself to set limits because she can, and will, do it all.
For 10 years, while Jenna was working in the public sector, she owned her own dog grooming business, before taking on a spray tanning business and studying graphic design in her spare time. Once she had accrued her long service leave, she took time off to study her Master Certification in Fitness and Nutrition Coaching (along with many other things!) and soon realised that she was on a mission to not only better herself, but to do what she could to better the world.
Jenna is an accomplished individual, to say the least. From competing on Ninja Warrior, to being a trusted brand ambassador for highly reputable global organisations (including Gold’s Gym and MTV) and a covergirl for Oxygen Mag as well as Womens’ Health and Fitness (just to name a few); she’s still chasing the wins.
Her leap of faith to pursue a full time career in the health and fitness industry was just the beginning. She created an online platform with global reach, which opened up endless opportunities to positively impact people’s lives. As a fitness expert, master trainer, nutrition coach, athlete, business owner, ambassador and founder of the Jenna Louise brand, she aims to help people find ways to challenge themselves every day; to help boost their physical and mental health; their confidence, well-being, self-worth, knowledge and values.
As a multi-discipline and performance athlete, Jenna refers to her style of training as “hybrid”. She loves integrating many different disciplines and methodologies, and this is exactly what she’s bringing YOU through HIIT FIT.
John Lindsey has dedicated the last five years to improving his movement capacity. In grad school, he realised his body was broken. He couldn’t touch his toes or squat past parallel, and he suffered severe back pain after most workouts.
He changed his perspective on physical practice and started putting an emphasis on daily mobility work. Before long, his body started moving like it should and he was able to dedicate more of his focus on developing skills and challenging his body-mind connection.
Mobility is John’s passion. He works on and researches it every day, and is excited to be able to share this research and experience with Ultra Athletes.

Celia was introduced to CrossFit in 2012 by her driving instructor. She quickly became interested in the sport and started competing at the age of 21. It didn’t take Celia long to start making a name for herself, winning her first few competitions and sharing her success on the internet.
Since then Celia has continued to compete at a high level, and is excited to share her wisdom with the Ultra team!
What makes us unique in our field, is our heavy focus on structured ‘working in’ practises, also known as good-old-fashioned recovery. We believe the addition of this is what makes a more balanced athlete who remains less injured, has increased longevity in their chosen sport, and builds a better mental game.
This is the system that James Newbury swears by, and has helped him become the athlete he is today.LEARN MORE Ask us a question

Humans have an “optimal stress zone”. Too little stress won’t illicit any results; and too much can lead to chronic inflammation, and then to chronic fatigue and, subsequently, adrenal fatigue. In addition to this, we need to account for the day-to-day stress caused by things like training, work, study and food… Ultra Athletes manage this by “working in”; it’s the conscious practise of energy giving to counterbalance the taking. Activities to support this practice include breath work, sauna, passive stretching, yoga, massage, cold therapy, meditation and floatation therapy.
Ultra’s programming offers a finely tuned approach that works to balance training stress through working in, and in a way that can be practised on a daily basis. This promotes better sleep, increased energy, greater arousal towards training, faster recovery and lower risk of injury. Working in also supports immune function, an important consideration in the lead up to competitions, when the likelihood of illness can increase.
Ultra’s Working In program is completely free for anyone to access.sign up
